Our starting point
findME began with a simple, uncomfortable observation: most personal safety apps assume you'll have time and privacy to open an app, choose a contact, and explain what's wrong. In a real emergency — a hijacking, a break-in, a threatening encounter on the street — you often have neither. You may have your phone in your pocket and nothing else.
We wanted something that worked with the phone locked, with the screen off, and without making a sound or triggering a light that could escalate a dangerous situation. That's the entire premise behind findME's silent SOS: a 5-second volume-button hold that sends your live GPS location to the people you've already chosen to trust, with no siren, no vibration, and nothing visible on the screen.
Built in South Africa, for South African realities
We're based in South Africa and built findME around conditions we and the people around us deal with directly — load shedding, unreliable street lighting, long response times in some areas, and the day-to-day calculus of getting home safely. That context shapes decisions across the product: for example, why the app avoids storing a rolling location history, and why family plans exist so a whole household can be covered under a single subscription.
What we won't do
- We don't track your location outside of an active SOS.
- We don't sell personal data, and we never will.
- We don't add sirens, countdowns, or anything else that could tip off someone standing next to you.

This website also carries a small safety blog — general, practical guidance on personal and household safety in a South African context. It's not tied to any single product; it's the kind of information we think is worth having regardless of which app or service you use.
